JAB Fighters Spina, Williams Take Titles

June 20, 2005

On Friday night, Joint Association of Boxers (JAB) member Joe “The KO Kid” Spina won the vacant United States National Boxing Championship (USNBC) light middleweight title by unanimous decision. Spina, who defeated former World Boxing Association champion Carl Daniels, remains undefeated with a lifetime record of 16-0-0 (11 KOs). Spina fought in front of a hometown and Teamster-heavy crowd in Providence, Rhode Island.

“It was a big fight—one of the biggest of his career,” said JAB President Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. “There were lots of Teamsters there to support him, which was great.”

On Thursday night, another JAB member, “King” Arthur Williams, captured the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) cruiserweight title by knocking out former titleholder Ali Supreme in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Williams, who is a former International Boxing Federation champion and a two-time United States Boxing Association cruiserweight champion, improved his record to 41-13-1 with 29 KOs.

“We’ve got guys winning championships now,” Mustafa said. “The boxing world is taking notice of JAB.”
