Main Event Announced for
First J.A.B. Fight March 9, 2004 In an exciting move forward for the Joint Association of Boxers (J.A.B.), Cedric Kushner Productions announced today the main event match-up for the first official unionized boxing event. J.A.B. is helping put together the April 15 night of boxing at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. Two of the night's eight fights will be broadcast live on on Showtime's popular Shobox series starting at 11 p.m. It is a landmark event for the fledgling union, which is affiliated with the Teamsters. J.A.B. President Eddie Mustafa Muhammad applauded Cedric Kushner, the fight's promoter, but reminded the gathered members of the boxing community that this event is about the boxers. "I'm a union fighter," said Jeremy Williams, who will fight Attila Levin in the main event. "If this does anything positive for the sport, I'm all for it." "I'm all for it," agreed Jameel "Big Time" McCline, who will fight in the co-featured match. "I'm very happy to be involved in something that's going to help the fighters." Kushner said the union's involvement will help improve the sport's image and help the boxers who train hard to make the fights happen. "J.A.B. has my 1000 percent support," Kushner said. "It's time for changewe need to clean up the sport. The union and unionization of the sport can go a long way toward that." No matter how long it takes to ensure every fight is a unionized fight, Muhammad said he's in it for the boxers and for the long haul. "I've been a fighter all my life," Muhammad said. "I've gone fifteen rounds, and I'm going the distance with this one."
