J.A.B. Testifies In
Michigan House for Boxing Reform Legislation Joint Association of Boxers Back Bill #4335 January 27, 2004 (Washington, DC) - Bill Black of Teamsters Michigan DRIVE testified last week on behalf of the Joint Association of Boxers (J.A.B.) in support of Michigan Bill #4335. The legislation, which would create a Michigan Boxing Commission, requires boxers, promoters, and referees to be licensed. The bill also enacts increases in boxer insurance, and requires promoters to post bonds passed the House Regulatory Reform Committee. At the meeting, Mr. Blackalong with other boxing figures such as Emanuel Steward, Thomas Hearns, and Angel Manfredytestified that reform legislation was a positive step in the right direction and consistent with goals of J.A.B. Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, J.A.B.'s founder, could not be present to testify but issued a statement in support of Michigan Bill #4335, "We are behind what Michigan is doing 100 percent. We need more such reform on the state and federal level and J.A.B will be there to testify each time. I want to thank Bill Black of the Teamsters for his appearance before the committee." J.A.B. is affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. |
