Statement of Buddy McGirt, Former IBC Light Middleweight, WBC Welterweight, and IBF and WBC Continental Americas Light Welterweight Champion

Although I am unable to be there today, I wanted to be sure I was on record supporting the boxers union—the Joint Association of Boxers—and their effort to secure a Presidential pardon of Jack Johnson.

I stand with my fellow members of the professional boxing community in support of this pardon—we are united in wanting to see this historic wrong righted. I thank Representative Peter King and other members of Congress who are working to make this happen. Also, thank you to Ken Burns and the Committee to Pardon Jack Johnson for bringing this issue to the forefront.

Thank you for supporting the resolution calling for a Presidential pardon of Jack Johnson.
